What Happened When I Used the ZIIP Halo 2.0 for 30 Days

I’ve been curious about microcurrent devices for a long time, but had read mixed reviews, so I was hesitant to commit since they are a bit of an investment. So when I decided to try the ZIIP Halo, I didn’t want to casually test it. I wanted to know if it worked.

That’s why I committed to a 30-day experiment, with consistent use, with before and after photos. I kept my skincare routine the same and even canceled a microneedling appointment (which I’ve never tried) so I could really see if the ZIIP made a difference on its own.

And here’s what happened:

My Skincare Journey & Why I Tried ZIIP

My skin has had a journey. In my 20s, I struggled with acne. It was so bad that oftentimes, I didn’t want to go to work because I was so embarrassed. In my 30s, my skin improved dramatically, but as I got closer to 40, I started noticing changes in texture, sagging, elasticity, and, of course, lines. Now that I’m 41, my skincare routine is focused on addressing all those changes. And the ZIIP is a must-have in my skincare routine – I wish I’d found it years ago.

I discovered the ZIIP Halo about a year ago, and it’s been an absolute game-changer for my skin. It can address literally any skin concern you have. Right now, I use treatments targeted for lifting, sculpting, fine lines, and collagen boosting, but it would have been amazing to have during my acne phase, since it even has a dedicated “problem skin” section. The fact that you can choose treatments depending on your skin’s needs (which changes over time!) makes it a must-have tool if you want to take care of your skin long-term.

Since using the ZIIP, my skin looks more awake, more toned, and just healthier. (Don’t miss the before and afters below – they’re wild.) The ZIIP feels like an investment in my overall health (shoutout to improvement with my TMJ) rather than a quick fix – but honestly, it provides a quick fix too. It depuffs and lifts instantly, and also increases fullness, glow, and contour even more over time.

The Original ZIIP Halo vs the ZIIP Halo 2.0

Like I mentioned above, I first started using the original ZIIP Halo about a year ago. After my very first use, I immediately noticed the lift, especially around my eyes, and an overall glow. Over time, I also saw improvement in overall firmness and smoothness. My skin just looked tighter and more refined. Plus, my fine lines appeared softer.

I have a lot of skincare devices, but if I could only have one, it would be the ZIIP Halo, hands down. It’s also the one I use most consistently because I enjoy it and because it gives me results immediately.

What made it become one of my top devices, though, was the cumulative effect. It’s not just an instant-gratification tool; it’s the way my skin continues to respond with regular use. I’ve especially appreciated the increased elasticity since that contributes to so many signs of aging that I want to address (smile lines and loss of fullness under my cheekbones). My skin feels noticeably less crepey and tighter to the touch.

I even found that it helped with my TMJ, which I really didn’t expect. TMJ is tightness in the jaw area, usually caused by grinding your teeth or clenching, and I’ve struggled with it for years. I’ve even cracked multiple teeth from clenching at night, despite wearing a mouthguard. When doing my ZIIP treatments, I noticed that it felt great along my jawline, so I started focusing on that area, and I no longer wake up with a headache or feel like I need ibuprofen to relieve the tightness. I did not expect that benefit but it makes me love the ZIIP even more.

What’s Different about the ZIIP Halo 2.0

When the ZIIP 2.0 launched, I didn’t expect to notice a huge difference (similar to how most iPhones look the same). But once I started using it, I was blown away (again, similar to how a new iPhone camera is always dramatically better!). It’s truly an upgrade – and it already felt elevated!

First, the packaging. It truly feels high-end, with a sleek presentation. It simply looks premium, and first impressions matter! Plus, it comes with all three premium conductive gels that contain skincare actives (more on this later!), which is great since they are pricey, so it’s nice to be able to try all three.

Externally, the device feels more ergonomic and sculpted. It fits comfortably in the hand and glides more intuitively along the contours of the face, especially around the cheekbones and jawline. The texture of the device feels nice in my hand, too. I also like the little cover that goes over the plug to keep any gel from getting inside.

Internally is where the real upgrade happened. The 2.0 delivers more advanced, refined waveforms. It still uses microcurrent for lift and nanocurrent for deeper cellular support, but the currents are even more precise and delivered even more consistently than before.

For me, that’s translated into faster results. I noticed more lift, even sooner into a treatment. And my skin’s elasticity has rapidly improved since switching to the 2.0. I also can feel the treatment more; sometimes I don’t feel anything (depending on which treatment I’m doing), but when I can feel something, it’s a sensation I really enjoy (almost a slight pulsing) so I appreciate the extra zhuzh.

The ZIIP Halo 2.0 took everything I liked about the original and made it even better – and more effective.

What Makes ZIIP Halo Different from Other Devices

Our skin is naturally electrically charged, and these currents play a role in cellular communication, repair, and regeneration. ZIIP is an all-in-one skincare device that works with the electrical currents naturally found within the skin to transform your skin at a cellular level. (It was news to me that our skin even had electrical currents!) SO it’s working with a process that your skin already does.

What sets ZIIP apart is that it doesn’t rely on just one type of current, like many other devices on the market. Each ZIIP treatment uses a different electrical current depending on what you’re trying to address, e.g.. lifting, brightening, clearing, depuffing, or smoothing.

If you’ve never used a microcurrent device before, the sensation can sound intimidating, but it’s not. Most of the time, I don’t feel anything at all, and if I do, it’s just gentle pulsing. It never hurts, and nothing about it feels harsh or uncomfortable.

How to Use the ZIIP Halo

The ZIIP Halo is pretty straightforward.

  1. Open the app and choose your treatment. Sessions range from 2-12 minutes, depending on what you want to treat (e.g. specific areas like the eyes or all over).
  2. Turn on your ZIIP Halo, and it will automatically sync to deliver the treatment you chose.
  3. Apply conductive gel all over your face (the guided treatment will also say specific areas to make sure you cover).
  4. The app guides you through exactly where to place the device and how long to hold it there.

ZIIP Gels

Another upgrade I genuinely appreciate is the inclusion of three premium gels with the ZIIP Halo 2.0. These aren’t basic conductive gels to make the device function properly; they contain skincare actives, similar to serums in your routine, which makes the entire treatment more effective.

Each gel is designed to support different skin goals while enabling conductivity, so you’re not just “prepping” the skin for the device; you’re actively treating it. That was a big differentiator for me. It transforms the experience from feeling purely technical to feeling like a true skincare ritual.

My personal favorite has always been the Golden Gel since it’s packed with active ingredients designed specifically for mature skin. But since I got all three gels with the new set, the Silver Gel might be taking the top spot – my skin loves the slightly thicker texture since it’s incredibly hydrating, and my skin seems to respond to the device more with the Silver gel!

I also appreciate that the gels don’t feel like a temporary layer that you rinse off. It’s actually become a step in my skincare routine, almost like a treatment serum that just happens to power the device. I will note that, while the gels can be left on for 5-10 minutes to act as a mask, they do need to be washed off. Use TAZIIP to save 10% on my favorite gel!

My ZIIP Halo Review

Alright, let’s get into my honest thoughts on how it improved certain things.

How I Tested the ZIIP Halo

Since I wanted to really put the 2.0 to the test and see if I noticed a visible improvement in my problem areas (smile lines and lack of fullness), I followed the “30 Days to Your Best Skin Ever” plan in the app. I just opened the app each day (okay, I missed a few days) and followed along.

These are my favorite treatments, but I’ve never disliked one since they all benefit my skin in different ways!

  • The Everything Facial – This uses 4 waveforms to address everything at once. When I’m not following a treatment plan, I try to use this 1-2x a week. (There’s also a 4-minute facial that I use when I’m in a hurry.)
  • Collagen Boosting – I really want more fullness under my jawline, so I love this new targeted treatment designed to give you soft, glowy skin! I use this 1-2 a week.
  • Lymphatic Drainage – I never really know how to do lymphatic drainage, so I appreciate that this guides me through it correctly vs. trying to figure it out with a gua sha. I use this once a week.
  • Eyes – This two-minute treatment tightens, brightens, and fills in lines around the eye area. I almost always use this before I take photos for work or have an important meeting!
  • Pimples treatment – I get a single breakout in the exact same spot every single month around my cycle, and it’s so annoying. But I use the Pimples treatment to address it, and 90 seconds calms it right down.
  • Jowls treatment – This has been the most helpful for my TMJ, as it’s focused on the jaw area. I used to wake up with pain in my jaw, and now I almost never have any pain there!

Overall, during my 30-day purposeful testing period, I ended up doing about 4-5 treatments a week. I prefer using it in the morning because it helps with any morning puffiness and lifts everything up, which is a nice way to start the day. But you certainly can use it at night.

Here’s what I noticed after 30 days with the new device.

ZIIP HALO RESULTS

Lift and Contour 9/10

This was the category where I noticed results right away. It definitely lifts my eye area after one use, and over time, I’ve noticed my contouring around my jaw, which has started to show some sagging.

(I have pretty defined cheekbones naturally so I wasn’t too focused on that area but I bet it would do wonders if that is a goal for you..)

Depuffing 10/10

Depuffing is one of ZIIP’s strongest benefits. When I’m puffy around my eyes in the morning, the ZIIP knocks it out quickly with a treatment. This was one of the fastest visible changes (seriously, almost instant) and made the device feel immediately rewarding.

Collagen Boosting – 10/10

This is where I was really hoping to notice a difference since I’ve definitely lost volume in my face, especially under my cheekbones. If you pay attention to the before and afters, you can see that my face has more youthful fullness again! I’ve never had filler, but I have been considering Sculptra, and now I feel like I can kick that can down the road.

Improved Elasticity – 10/10

It’s hard to show this in photos, but my skin feels noticeably different to the touch. I often find myself touching my skin throughout the day because I just love how firm and tight it feels. It’s hard to describe, but it’s almost like my face has started working out and has tone, the same way my arms feel after arm day!

Smile Lines 6/10

This was the main reason I did the experiment, and alas, the ZIIP did not erase my smile lines. (Not that I expected it to.) But it did soften them. They look less deep at rest, and the skin around that area looks smoother and less crepey, even if the lines themselves are still there.

I do feel like my skin is noticeably more elastic in that area, which makes me think it’s preventing more rapid aging that would happen without the ZIIP. I will also note that 30 days is a relatively short amount of time, so the longer and more consistently you use ZIIP, the better results you will see. Since the ZIIP is something I will definitely continue to use, I will make updates to this post as I continue to see results!

If you’re expecting injector-level results from an at-home device, this isn’t that. But if your goal is gradual improvement and better skin quality without filler, this is the device to get.

TMJ relief 7/10

I am a major clencher, and even with a mouth guard, I’ve cracked teeth. Sometimes I wake up, and my jaw is so sore and tight that I have to massage it for relief. But I realized that the ZIIP is actually super effective for helping that area to relax. It’s probably an off-label use, but if you struggle with TMJ and don’t want to get Botox masseter injections (I don’t), definitely give it a try.

My ZIIP Before & After

Looking at my before-and-after photos, the changes are pretty clear. (I took photos three weeks apart in front of the same window. The lighting is a little different just because the sun is always different, but I didn’t edit at all.)

My skin looks smoother at rest, my face looks more lifted and full, and my smile lines appear softer. My skin also looks healthier!

Pay particular attention to these areas in the photos to see the biggest difference:

  • The fullness in my jaw area, along with more definition in my cheekbones
  • My jowls have less sag to them
  • My eye area looks brighter and more awake

Here’s a photo from about 18 months ago, before I was using the ZIIP at all. (Note that I did get Botox one time in the past year – mostly on my forehead). What stands out to me the most with the photos a year apart is the improvement in my skin tone – it’s more even, and age spots and melasma have dramatically improved.

My eyes look healthier, my face has more definition, and everything just looks more lifted. I’ve always thought I don’t really need the contouring treatment since I have defined cheekbones, but this photo, compared to my more recent ones, proves that the ZIIP is essential for maintaining that natural definition.

If you’re finally convinced this is a worthy investment (and trust me, it is), you can use code TAZIIP for 10% off your ZIIP device.

Frequently Asked Questions About the ZIIP Halo 2.0

How often should I use the ZIIP Halo 2.0?

For best results, I recommend using it about 5 times per week when you’re starting out. Once you’ve built consistency and achieved your desired lift and tone, you can scale back to 3-5 times per week for maintenance. The key is consistency because the cumulative results are what really make the difference, especially for things like softer lines, improved fullness, and sagging skin.

How soon will I see results?

You’ll notice an immediate lift and glow after your first treatment, especially around the cheekbones and jawline. With consistent use over several weeks, you’ll start to see more long-term benefits like improved firmness, smoother texture, and softened fine lines.

Does it hurt?

No. You may feel a slight tingling sensation or a metallic taste in your mouth (which is completely normal with microcurrent), but it shouldn’t be painful. If it feels uncomfortable, you likely need more gel for proper conductivity.

What skin concerns does it help with?

ZIIP is designed to address almost any skin concern, e.g. loss of firmness, fine lines, dullness, uneven texture, and even problem-prone skin, like acne. The app includes targeted treatments, including a dedicated “problem skin” section, making it customizable for different seasons of your skin.

Is it worth upgrading from the original ZIIP?

If you already loved the original, I do think the 2.0 is a meaningful upgrade. It delivers more refined waveforms, improved consistency, and a more ergonomic design. Plus, the addition of premium, active-infused gels is nice since the gels alone cost quite a bit. If you don’t have a ZIIP device yet, you get to start with the best.

Can I use it with my existing skincare?

Yes, just make sure you’re using one of the ZIIP conductive gels during the treatment. Once you have washed the gel off, you can continue your skincare routine as usual. I personally treat it like a high-performance first step within my morning skincare routine.

Ziip Halo vs NuFACE

This was my biggest question before deciding which device to get, and ultimately, I chose the ZIIP. NuFACE only allows you to adjust the intensity of the current; therefore, its benefits are primarily limited to lifting. In contrast, ZIIP varies not just the intensity but also the polarity and shape of the waveform with each treatment, meaning it delivers a wider range of results –  from lifting and toning to evening skin tone, reducing pigmentation, boosting collagen, and helping clear breakouts.

The Bottom Line

After 30 days of consistent use, the results speak for themselves. My jawline looks fuller and my cheekbones more defined, my jowls have less sag, and my eye are looks brighter and more awake. The ZIIP Halo 2.0 makes it easy to get the results at home. I have lots of skincare devices, but the ZIIP Halo is the only one I consistently use because it works, it’s quick to use, and I honestly just enjoy it the most.

If you want to see these kinds of results for yourself, use code TAZIIP for 10% off your ZIIP device.
